ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW

La Jolla Playhouse is a place where artists and audiences come together to create what’s new and next in theAmerican theatre, from Tony Award-winning productions, to imaginative programs for young audiences, tointeractive experiences outside our theatre walls. Founded in 1947 by Gregory Peck, Dorothy McGuire and Mel Ferrer, the Playhouse is currently led by Tony Award winner Christopher Ashley, the Rich Family Artistic Director ofLa Jolla Playhouse, and Managing Director Debby Buchholz. The Playhouse is internationally renowned for thedevelopment of new plays and musicals, including mounting 105 world premieres, commissioning 60 new works, and sending 33 productions to Broadway, garnering a total of 38 Tony Awards, as well as the 1993 Tony Award for Outstanding Regional Theatre. These works include the Broadway hits Come From Away, Diana and Memphis, all directed by Ashley; The Who’s Tommy; the Pulitzer Prize-winning I Am My Own Wife; and Jersey Boys.

STATEMENT OF JOB

The Associate Director of Sales & Marketing oversees sales and marketing functions for the theatre, including the strategic vision and execution of single ticket and subscription campaigns. This highly collaborative role works closely with Philanthropy, Learning and Engagement and Artistic teams to increase patron retention, support engagement and expand awareness of Playhouse programs and increase and diversify Playhouse audiences. This position requires a deep knowledge of media buying, social media & digital advertising, customer acquisition and sales strategies, collateral creation, customer service, budgeting and data analysis. The ideal candidate is a creative thinker who is energized by finding solutions to challenges. They are a person who is equally adept at paying attention to detail and proposing big picture strategies that impact the organization. This role reports to the Chief Communications Officer and oversees 1-2 employees.

Prospective candidates should demonstrate their relevant sales and marketing experience. Past performing artsexperience is a plus, but not mandatory. Original, bold and visionary applicants are strongly encouraged to apply.
