The Old Globe, a year-round professional theatre company producing 14 or more productions annually on three stages in beautiful Balboa Park in San Diego, seeks candidates for its Literary Associate position.

Supporting and collaborating with the Director of New Plays and Dramaturgy, and with generous support from philanthropists, the Literary Associate provides key support for new works and dramaturgy, including reading and evaluating plays for production and for developmental opportunities, supporting the process of commissioning and workshopping new plays, and offering dramaturgical support to productions as needed.

Responsibilities also include, but are not limited to managing the Globe’s script database; managing the team of freelance script readers and program article writers; helping to establish, maintain, and nurture relationships with playwrights and their agents; supporting commissions, workshops, festivals, and readings as assigned; attending Artistic staff meetings and participating in the season planning process; helping coordinate the Powers Playwriting Fellowship program; supporting a limited number of Globe productions as assigned (including providing dramaturgical support, writing program content, and coordinating humanities events for those productions.)

The successful candidate will have 3-5 years literary or dramaturgical experience or combination of relevant experience and education, strong writing skills, strong skills in play analysis (experience reading and evaluating plays desired, as well as existing relationships with working writers and agents,) and experience with and knowledge of the current landscape of both new playwriting and play development. The ideal candidate will be motivated, organized, and will enjoy working collaboratively. Occasional nighttime and weekend work will be required.

This position is full-time with benefits including 401(k). This is a non-exempt position paying $27.00 – $30.00 per hour. Bilingual English/Spanish speaking is a plus. Bilingual English/Spanish-speaking and multilingual candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.
