The Old Globe, a year-round professional theatre company producing 14 or more productions annually on three stages in beautiful Balboa Park in San Diego, seeks candidates for Literary Associate, a new full-time position on the artistic staff.

Over the last decade, The Old Globe’s commitment to new writing has grown exponentially. Now, thanks to a generous gift, The Old Globe will be expanding its new play programming over the next several years, as well as developing new programs. The Literary Associate will play a vital role in that process. The Literary Associate will provide key support for the newly established Department of New Plays and Dramaturgy, including reading and evaluating plays for production, supporting the process of commissioning and workshopping new plays, and offering dramaturgical support to productions as needed.

The successful candidate will have 3-5 years minimum literary or dramaturgical experience (or combination of school and experience,) very strong writing and play analysis skills, and knowledge and experience of the current landscape of both new playwriting and play development. Experience reading and evaluating plays is desired. The ideal candidate will be motivated and organized, and will enjoy working collaboratively. Occasional nighttime and weekend work will be required.

Applicants should demonstrate a commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion and access and anti-racism work in the theatre. We strongly encourage applications from populations underrepresented in the theatre field. Bilingual English/Spanish-speaking and multilingual candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.

As of October 1, 2021, employees must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 unless a medical or religious exemption applies. Must be able to complete and clear applicable background screening.

Full-time, hourly position with benefits, including 401(k). Send cover letter and resume to HR@TheOldGlobe.org with “Literary” in subject line.
