Located in Solana Beach, in the heart of San Diego’s Coastal North County, the theatre boasts an award-winning Mainstage season, with performances year-round to over 40,000 people in its intimate 194-seat setting. In addition, the theatre involves thousands of young people each year in the Theatre School @ North Coast Rep’s education and outreach programs.

The Scenic Carpenter supports the Technical Director in the creation, building, transportation and finishing of sets for MainStage productions and assists with shop maintenance.

General Responsibilities:

Knowledge and working experience with a broad background of carpentry, scenic painting, properties construction is a plus

Staging and truck loading of all assigned jobs

Use of manual and power tools to install and maintain all staging and scenery on location

Assist with on-site installation and breakdown of elements 

Use internal computer systems to receive and complete tasks and communicate with coworkers

Other warehouse duties as assigned: pickup/delivery, housekeeping.

General construction and theatrical/event construction techniques.


1 year experience as a scenic carpenter (or similar hands-on educational experience)

Must have a sense of balance with ability to work on ladders

Must be able to lift 75+ pounds

Ability to follow direction as well as work independently 

Ability to work as a team-player under production deadlines

Class C driver’s license and clean driving record (required)

Must comply with the COVID policy requiring on-site staff to be fully vaccinated


This part-time hourly position will be paid between $16-$21 per hour dependent on experience.
