Point Loma Playhouse Workshops

The Point Loma Playhouse offers workshops year-round. These workshops are unique in that all levels, beginner to the seasoned, are invited to get on stage, learn through the educational staff and then culminate a workshop performance in front of a live audience. These workshops vary from two days to seven weeks.   Within the structure of its education department, Point Loma Playhouse supports a positive, constructive, safe environment for the non-professional adult actor.

Workshops include “Intensive Acting Workshop + Showcase” and “Shakespeare Workshop + Showcase .”

San Diego Musical Theatre Academy - Rising Stars

Rising Stars offers students a more advanced classroom and rehearsal experience with a professional artistic team, which culminates in a performance for family and friends on the SDMT Stage. Participants will have the opportunity to attend the final dress rehearsal of SDMT’s current professional production for free!

San Diego Musical Theatre Academy - Musical Theatre Explorers

Ages 5-7. SDMT Academy offers the first of our new primary class offerings, Musical Theatre Exploration classes! Students will have the opportunity to explore acting, singing, and dance in a fun class environment. A great place for your up-and-coming stars to learn musical theatre fundamentals and basic techniques!

San Diego Musical Theatre Academy - Team Tech

Ages 15 – 18. Rising Stars offers the first of our new tech experiences, Team Tech! This program includes opportunities for our teen technical students (15-18 years old)  to get involved, working with industry professionals to learn hands-on skills in lighting, sound, and stage

San Diego Shakespeare Society

Free monthly Shakespeare readings at three locations: The Upstart Crow Bookstore in Seaport Village, the Central Library, Downtown, and the Encinitas Library. Free. Anyone can join in the reading or just come along to listen. Parts are re-assigned before each scene so everyone who wants to can read. These popular readings are fun, interactive, creative, and great public speaking and acting practice. They are also a good way to meet other people who are interested in Shakespeare and his work.

Acting Professionally

Where training meets opportunities – specializes in on-camera film and television acting training. We offer Sunday classes for all ages – kids, teens and adults – and all levels – beginning, intermediate and advanced. In addition to professional level classes, and guidance in the “business of acting” we offer an annual multi-media industry showcase at the Lyceum Theatre, attended by agents, casting directors, managers and independent filmmakers, that is also posted online and available to industry professionals in Los Angeles and beyond. We offer guest workshops in auditioning, commercial acting, and “branding,” and kids and teens summer camps. Whenever possible, audition opportunities are offered to students as it is our philosophy that actors should not only study – but work in their field.

Christian Youth Theatre

Christian Youth Theater (CYT) is an after-school theater arts training program for students ages 4 – 18. Since its founding in 1981 in San Diego California, CYT has grown to be the largest youth theater in the nation. Enrolled students have the opportunity to work behind the scenes, or audition and perform on stage in a Broadway-style musical performed for the community.

Coronado School of the Performing Arts

Star Theatre Coast Kids Program

The Star Theatre’s Coast Kids Program was founded in 1981 with the mission to provide a quality education in the performing arts to children and young adults. We emphasize the building of self-confidence that will carry over in all areas of their lives. Some of our children have also performed at other regional theaters and several of our graduates have gone on to study voice and theater in college.

Point Loma Playhouse Stand-Up Comedy Workshop + Showcase

This hilarious workshop gives you the tools you need to put together a bang-up comedy routine, while improving your public speaking, being a better MC, honing your comedic writing skills and improving your performance techniques. Whether you are brand new to Stand-Up Comedy or you would like to improve your act, this is the class for you. At the end of the 6 week session you will have a 5 to 7 minute “comedy set” that you will be able to perform in front of a “live” audience, anywhere, anytime, anyplace, and that’s no joke! Directed by the native San Diegan Tony Calabrese. Tony has performed at a variety of comedy clubs nationwide over the last fifteen years, with national headliners at the V Theater in the Sin City Comedy Show in Las Vegas.

The Academy of Performing Arts (APA) has been committed to offering the best instruction available in the performing arts since 1993. We provide all of the training necessary for the aspiring performing artist to succeed as well as offering classes for those interested in the performing arts for enjoyment. Everyone is welcome!

San Diego Creative Arts Project - SDCAP

San Diego Creative Arts Project – SDCAP is a new performing arts organization, invested in engaging, training, and inspiring students of all ages, who desire to grow artistically and confidently SDCAP, “Where Arts Emerge”, offers classes, camps and performance opportunities for kids and adults, in Dance, Theatre, Voice, and Yoga, and Pilates. SDCAP is dedicated to reaching out to include youth from all backgrounds in San Diego County. This new and unique Performing Arts Conservatory program has been created to train, challenge, and produce – technically, and artistically confident performers.

At SDCAP, doing the absolute best job, with the highest standards of artistic integrity, while teaching students the disciplines of theatre, music, and dance is the motivation, bringing amazing results, and dedication promoting “Creativity, Collaboration, and Confidence.”

Southern California Ballet

Southern California Ballet celebrates its 30th anniversary during the 2015-16 season.  SCB’s mission is to provide enrichment, education, outreach and public entertainment for the community, and to provide performance and artistic opportunities for dedicated young dancers.   Located in the Rancho Bernardo area, the Academy offers classes for all ages in ballet, tap, character, pointe, jazz, hip-hop, creative dance and modern as well as master classes and a summer intensive. The Academy is the only dance studio in San Diego County and surrounding areas to offer Cecchetti exams allowing the student to progress in ballet following an internationally accepted curriculum.  The annual Academy performance is held in September.  SCB’s Company is comprised of high school aged dancers who annually perform in The Nutcracker and a Spring Repertoire production at the Poway Center for the Performing Arts.
